On the first day of 3 days trek to Mahoma Loop central circuit journey, we will start in Nyakalengija, which is situated at an elevation of 1560 meters. Our destination for the day is the Omukakiza camp, located at an altitude of 2500 meters.

On 3 days trek to Mahoma Loop central circuit, start your day by quickly contacting the reservation officer of Rwenzori Mountaineering Service to arrange for guides and porters. The trek will commence at the park gate, which is situated at an altitude of 1700 meters. The distance to be covered is 6.5 kilometers, which typically takes around 4-5 hours. Additionally, there will be a rise of 1000 meters. The walk beyond the gate leads you into the montane forest zones, where you may observe a variety of bird species, including the three-horned chameleon, an endemic species, as well as black and white colobus monkeys and Rwenzori turaco birds. The trail climbs sharply to reach the Omukakiza campsite, where food is served and visitors can spend the night in tents.
Day 2 trek from omukakiza 2500m to lake mahoma camp 300m
On the second day of 3 days trek to Mahoma Loop central circuit,you will be trekking from Omukakiza camp at an altitude of 2500m to Lake Mahoma camp at an altitude of 3000m.
From omukakiza, the trail drops sharply for a few hours, traversing the bamboo forest before transitioning into a somewhat level terrain known as the elephant zone. Omukakiza offers a vantage point from which one may observe the majestic Portal Peaks and Kinyangoma Hills. The level terrain leads to the wooden pathway, and the surrounding vegetation consists of a mixture of Heather and afro alpine zones, abundant with senecio plants, huge lobelia, and lobelia giberoa.
After a long journey, I finally arrived at Mahoma Lake, which is the deepest lake in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. It has a depth of 12 feet and is mostly fed by the melted snow from Mount Baker.
The distance reached is 6 kilometers in a time span of 5 to 6 hours. Enjoy a delightful evening meal followed by a restful overnight stay at Mahoma Lakes camp.Set up the tent.
Day 3: Depart from Lake Mahoma camp and hike to Nyabitaba camp, then continue to Nyakalengija.
Depart from Lake Mahoma early, following the same path back to Nyakalengija. The typical duration for completing this 8km course is 3 hours.Descending along the Mubuku River and across fields to reach the park gate.
Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the lodge of your choosing.
